years. Works previously entered and accepted are not eligible.
Juror of Awards
We feel quite honored to have as our Juror for the 5th
Annual Exhibition, Mr. Jack Hines. Jack Hines was born on a farm in eastern
Nebraska, close by the Platte River and beside the Oregon Trail. His devotion to
art has led him far from that rural beginning to schooling and the professional
practice of painting for over fifty-five years. The Art Center College of
Design, Choinard Art Institute and the Art Students League have been sources of
education in the field. His artist wife, Jessica Zemsky, provides working
companionship and deep motivation for his work. The historic and contemporary
west, the wonders of marine life and the mature cultures found in their frequent
painting trips to Europe, provide the impetus for their expressions in art. Mr.
Hines, a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society, was featured in
the Spring 2000 issue of Watercolor Magic, and the June 2000 issue of The
Artist’s Magazine.
Specifications
Artwork must be painted as transparent watercolor, applied
only in a transparent manner. Medium must be based in a gum arabic binder;
pigment must be resoluble in water. Use of white, acrylic, gouache, ink, pastel,
colored pencil, metallic, collage or surface constructions will not be allowed.
Works must be painted on a single piece of untreated paper. Use of gesso,
priming, or embossing is not permitted. Handmade paper must be free of pigment
and/or imbedded materials.
Conditions
Accepted work must be quality framed behind plexiglass, and
wired to hang. Top mats must be white, off-white or very light neutral, no
exceptions. Color filets are acceptable. Maximum frame size cannot exceed 500 in
either direction. Minimum image size is 8" x 10" (80 sq. in.). All works will be
reviewed by the NPWS screening committee for Prospectus infringements. This
committee’s decisions are final. If works do not pass the final screening,
they will not be exhibited and will be returned at the artist’s expense.
Jurying will be based only on the artwork. The slides of accepted work will be
retained permanently by NPWS for use for publicity and show publication only.
Prairie Edge will handle all sales. A 35% commission will be charged.
Statement of Liability
Artists are responsible for insuring their paintings to and
from the exhibition. Prairie Edge provides insurance during the exhibition.
Neither NPWS or Prairie Edge will be responsible for damage or loss of artwork
during shipment.
Fees and Shipping
The entrance fee for NPWS members is $15.00 for up to three
slides. The fee for non-members is $20.00 for up to three slides. Due at the
time of shipping, an uncrating/crating fee of $10.00 per crate will be charged
to all accepted entrants. This fee must be enclosed with the accepted painting(s).
Artists are responsible for shipping fees both ways. Please purchase a call tag
for the return shipping for your painting. This is a requirement for all
accepted paintings. Paintings must be wrapped in foam, bubble wrap, or paper
packing. No peanuts, please. Any repairs made necessary by poor packing or
improper framing will be billed to the artist.
Method of Entry
Each artist may enter up to three original watercolors.
Slides must be mounted in 2" x 2" cardboard or plastic holders. Artists may not
substitute another work for accepted originals, nor change the sale price, nor
withdraw accepted entries. Enclose a #10 SASE for notification of acceptance and
return of unaccepted slides. Label slides as shown below. Mark each slide with
your name, title of artwork and an arrow pointing up. Include both image and
frame dimensions. Indicate #1, #2, or #3 in the upper right-hand corner to
identify entries. Two paintings per artist may be selected.
